Obituary of Gary Neilson

Gary “Gary Raye” Neilson, 62, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He was born in Peoria on August 17, 1963, to William and Charlotte (Wehrmeister) Neilson. He married Debra Sager on July 5, 1997, in East Peoria; she survives.

Also surviving are his children, Ashley Neilson, Wesley (Jessie) Sager, and Ryan Sager; his brother, Bill Neilson; sister Nancy Neilson Mullen; 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Kenzie, Jackson, Caleb, Zayden, and Aria; and two nieces, Sherri Derrick and Sheila (Kris) Fugitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graduate of EPCHS and Bradley University, Gary worked as an IT Specialist with Basic Technology for several years.

Gary loved to perform and was an Elvis Entertainer for over 35 years. He was an inspiration and mentor to Steven Geiler.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Cremation Specialist of Illinois is assisting the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
