Obituary of Joanne J. Sloter

Joanne J. Sloter, 72, of Dunlap, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. She was born in Columbus, OH on Jan 15, 1954, to Lawrence and Lucille (Rice) Barnett. She married Keith Sloter on November 17, 2015; he survives.

Also surviving are her children, Bonnie (Brett) Johnson of Pekin and Sam (Hannah) Brunkalla of Peoria; and 8 grandchildren, Domenico, Wesley, Adelina, Eleanora, Brooks, Jaxon, Alexandra, and Troy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Joanne graduated with a degree in education from Western Illinois University, then earned her Master of Education from University of Illinois, specializing in Early Childhood Special Education. She taught at Peoria Public Schools District 150 until she retired.

Joanne was passionate about teaching and helping others. She also had a special love for her canine companions. In her free time, Joanne loved to crochet and share her creations with her grandkids and those around her.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Cremation Specialist of Illinois is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to PAWS in Peoria. Online condolences may be left at www.CSofIL.com.
