Obituary of Jill Elizabeth Sunderland

Jill Elizabeth (Brewer) Sunderland, 68, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, under the compassionate care of the staff at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

Born on December 6, 1957, in Peoria, Illinois, Jill was the youngest daughter of Edward and Peggy (Plaeger) Brewer, both of whom preceded her in death. She was one of eight children and cherished the lifelong bonds she shared with her siblings and extended family.

Jill shared many happy years of marriage with the love of her life, Timothy Sunderland, who preceded her in death in 2011.

Family was the center of Jill’s life. She was the proud mother of two children, Chelsey and Jack Sunderland. She treasured time spent with family and friends. Jill had a remarkable gift for making people laugh, and those who knew her cherished her quick wit and loyal friendship.

She is survived by her children; several siblings; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, other extended family members; and dear friends.

Jill graduated from Manual High School in 1975 after beginning cosmetology school as a co-op student in 1973. Her 49-year career as a hairdresser was a labor of love, one that allowed her to form lasting relationships with generations of clients. Many of those clients became lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00–11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2525 S. Skyway Road, Bartonville, preceding the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Jill’s cremated remains will be privately interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Following the Mass, family and friends are warmly invited to gather at the Bartonville VFW, 4518 S. Lafayette Ave., to celebrate Jill’s life, share memories, and honor the lasting impact she had on so many.
