Obituary of Lloyd Thomas "Tom" Miller

 

Lloyd Thomas “Tom” Miller, 87, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 15, 1939, in Creve Coeur, to Howard and Mildred (Bacon) Miller. On September 7, 1958, he married Joy Armstrong in East Peoria; they shared 52 wonderful years together until her death on August 29, 2011.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and beloved nephew Kip.

Surviving are his two children, Robyn Miller and her friend Toby Slevin of Creve Coeur, and Daryn Miller of New Jersey. Brother Edward (Jo) of Bartonville, Sister-in-laws June (Kirt) Abbott, Janet (Gary) Sharp of Chillicothe, and Brother-in-law Tim (Molly) Cranford of Peoria, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him deeply.

Tom graduated from East Peoria Community High School, where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Upon discharge, he began his career at Caterpillar which lasted 43 years in the foundry and as a maintenance supervisor.

Tom was an avid bowler who participated in multiple leagues and proudly achieved a perfect 300 game. He was also a dedicated golfer and an incredible fastpitch softball player. Tom enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and spending time hunting. Tom and Joy loved to travel and visited many states throughout the years. They especially treasured their trips to Florida and their winters spent in Gulf Shores. He was a devoted baseball coach and mentor who shared not only his love of the game, but also valuable lessons that reached beyond the baseball field. Tom was a die-hard Yankees fan and enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Bears and Illini basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loving pups!

Cremation rites have been accorded. Cremation Specialist of Illinois is assisting the family. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 19 from 1:00 – 4:00 at Quail Meadows Golf Course. Please come casual and representing your favorite sports team.
