Obituary of Robert G. Sumner

Robert G. Sumner, 78, of Goodfield, peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, at Carle Health Methodist in Peoria on Saturday, September 13, 2025. He was born on March 5, 1947, in Paducah, KY, to Bertram and Mary (Stonum) Sumner. He married Joanne Stear on June 30, 1977, in Peoria and they celebrated 48 years of marriage together; she survives. 

Also surviving are his 3 children, Robert G. Sumner, II and Scott Sumner (Jen Young), both of East Peoria and Kelly (Andrew) Grochowsky of Chillicothe; 2 brothers; and 5 grandchildren, Owen, Grayson, Carson, Haleigh and Elleigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.

Robert proudly served in the Army from 1966-1968, then worked as a galvanizer at Keystone Steel and Wire for 36 years. 

He enjoyed fishing and loved animals, especially his dogs, Lola and Addie.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be private. Cremation Specialist of Illinois is assisting the family.
