He married Lynda Mason on June 21, 1959 at the old Assembly of God Church in Macomb, IL; she survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Camilla Roberts; ; Son, Daryl (Mary) Roberts; Grandson, Chad Kautz; Granddaughter, Allison Roberts; Great Grandson Giovanni. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; great grandparents, Lefa & Carlton Smith; and uncles and aunts, Betty & Henry Smith, Pauline & Carl McMillan; and cousins Sue & Jerry Smith. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church and a wonderful example of faith, that no problem was bigger than our heavenly Father. He Retired from the Carpenter’s local 183, currently Local 237, specializing in finish carpentry and a whole bag of old Indian tricks. He was highly influenced by the aviators in his family, his Great Uncle Bub & Uncle Henry, earning his pilot's license in the early 60’s at Clugston Airport, Macomb, IL and several ratings from McLaughlin's EMTOO at Greater Peoria Airport, IL. He was a Century Club Member (which helped build the museum) of the Experimental Aircraft Association and attended the annual EAA AirVenture week convention by flying up to Oshkosh, WI in the polished aluminum Cessna 170A for 45 years. Never missing a year of camping in the tent next to the plane with the family and catching different aviation sights, historians, workshops, forums, information, meals and conversations with friends and family. He was also a member of the Cessna 170 type club, Warbirds, Vintage, Aerobatics and Seaplane clubs. So if you ever get the chance to stop at a fly-in breakfast early on a Sunday morning, before church to visit with friends or family, I know my Dad would be the first to encourage you to take the time and enjoy!
